The Thigh Prompt Aids

Rifton Pacer Gait Trainer Video 5

Providing varying degrees of abduction, the thigh prompt aids swing freely with a client's stride. Because they help keep the lower extremities aligned, thigh prompt aids also encourage weight-bearing. Discover their basic adjustments and see them in use in this video. A transcript is provided below for viewers with hearing disabilities.

[00:00:00] Caption: Thigh Prompts

[00:00:00.00] Narrator: The thigh prompts are strapped to the user's leg and swing freely in stride. They prevent scissoring, and straighten the legs to keep the body from twisting during walking motion.

[00:00:11.07] Woman: (speaking to child in Pacer) Just can't wait to get those M&Ms! Good job walking!

[00:00:20.06] Narrator: Like the other prompts, they can be moved along the top frame. For most users they should be placed behind the chest prompt, with the clamp on the outside. Medial, lateral, and height adjustments can be made with these two knobs.

[00:00:46.24] William Lynch, Physical Therapy Director: Anthony tends to exhibit a lot of scissoring when he's ambulating, especially when he's not focused. So when we put the thigh prompts on him, we were able to take that control away from him and not let him have to think about that. Then he was more focused on what was in front of him and how to move his legs, instead of catching his heels behind his own feet, and scissoring.
