Evidence Update: Position Paper on Supported Standing Devices

Health benefits of the upright, weight-bearing posture include improvements in body functions and structures, increased activity levels, and social involvement. An abundance of research supports the benefits of adaptive standing, providing dosage and implementation guidelines for effective intervention outcomes.

A recent addition to this body of literature is the article, RESNA and CTF Position on the Application of Supported Standing Devices: Current State of the Literature, by Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology of North America (RESNA) and its associated Clinician Task Force (CTF). This position paper serves as a valuable resource for clinicians looking to improve outcomes for their clients or for those advocating for the use of supported standers and can also help educate third party payers about the medical necessity and health benefits of these devices.
